Joseph A. Catania, DDS, MPH
As an orthodontist, it is wonderful to be able to make such a positive impact on someone's life by helping them look and feel better. Every patient I see is unique and has an interesting story to share. I am so fortunate to have built a practice full of so many nice people over the past 24 years. I feel like they’re truly a part of my extended family. I believe the positive experiences my patients enjoy in our office encourage them to take an active role in taking good care of their smiles for the rest of their lives.
Education and Experience
My education provided me with the background I needed to start creating beautiful smiles for my patients. I am uniquely qualified because I have experience as a general dentist as well. That experience has proven to be invaluable.

My Team
I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated, caring professionals who truly care about our patients and take pride in their work. My orthodontic team is one of the few fully certified orthodontic teams in the country which means unparalleled care and expertise for our patients.
In the Orthodontic Community
One of my favorite professional activities is my work as a teacher. Working with others and showing them what I have learned through research and my years of private practice is very rewarding. I have had the privilege of being a clinical instructor at the Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester Graduate Orthodontics Department, as well as at St. Joseph's Hospital Dental Clinic. In addition, I have also served on the medical faculty of the Cleft Palate Team at Upstate Medical Center.
Outside the Office
I was born in Brooklyn, NY and have lived in the Syracuse area since 1989. My lovely wife, Eva, and I have two wonderful children, Elise and Ben. Most of my free time is spent enjoying family activities. We love family movie and game nights! I also coach my children’s soccer, basketball, baseball, and football teams. Being outdoors is something I’ve always enjoyed whether I am biking, downhill and cross-country skiing, swimming, or playing tennis. I am also an active participant and sponsor of many community projects, both professionally and personally.
